How to make a drum machine with a tape loop and vintage reel to reel tape recorders. This How-To video shows you how to create a tape loop that runs between two vintage tape recorders, turning them into a silly drum machine. It uses one capstan drive and one rim drive tape recorder to manage an endless loop of tape, that you can make yourself! Although this loop runs at 1-7/8 inches per second, the video gives you an equation that lets you calculate a tape loop for any speed and of any duration. The video was inspired by a wonderful video made by CassetteMaster called: Craziness of the Reel-to-reel Tape, available on YouTube at: www.youtube.com Be sure and check it out for a fun time! ***** About Our Sponsor ***** ClydeSight Productions' VISUAL Subliminal Message programs (DSPP) help you have a better mind, better health and better life! My first reel-to-reel machine. A nice vintage portable Panasonic RQ-706S, mono with dual built-in speakers. I need to get a blank tape so I can test its recording quality. I have some prerecorded music tapes but they are 4-track stereo, which this machine does not play properly.

This is my recent addition to my small collection of tape recorders, similar in many ways to my Studer A807. It's the last of the Revoxs made. Great machine!!

A very nice US-made reel-to-reel tape recorder. Semi-portable: has a handle, and is not as big as a regular deck, but no batteries and has to run off AC. I found this today (7/8/09) at a thrift store for $10. I had to do some minor mechanical repairs such as oiling, and putting new foam in for the clutch mechanism for the take-up reel, since the original had crumbled to dust. No recapping had to be done except I may need to replace the motor-run cap sometime soon. This machine also has a PA feature.

Showing some of the X86's operations. This is a digital 2-track mastering recorder with time code and analog cue track.. It cost around $30000 in 1987. 16-bit resolution at 44.1 or 48 khz. Machines like this are what high-end recording studios often used to record an album's final mix to in the 80's & early 90's.
